City Council expected to approve the deal
The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg voted to approve a proposed contract that would see pay increases over the next four years. 1.8% in the first year and 2% for each of the next three will cost the city about $12.9 million over the length of the contract.
City Council still needs to approve the deal and it is expected that will happen.
The firefighter deal is the first to be reached with the city. The Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Winnipeg Police Association are also currently in negotiations with the city since their contracts expired earlier this year.
