Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an alarm in a four-storey apartment building after residents reported the smell of gas around 10:15 pm Monday night, December 14, 2020.
As crews arrived to the building in the 2300 block of McGillivray Boulevard they made sure the building had been evacuated. A detector was then used by firefighters that confirmed carbon monoxide was present. Officials say the readings were between 15 and 21 parts per million.
The building was ventilated as Manitoba Hydro crews repaired the cause of the carbon monoxide which was related to the buildings boiler.
Once the boiler was repaired residents were able to return to their suites.
Fire officials noted that they strongly encourage residents to install a carbon monoxide alarm on every floor of their home.
