A fire in a vacant Sutherland Avenue building kept firefighters busy on Saturday night, February24, 2024.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. firefighters were called to the building and found flames and smoke coming from inside the structure. Due to previous fires in July and September 2023, which left the structure partially collapsed an external attack was launched using hand lines and an aerial ladder truck.
The fire was thought to be extinguished shortly after 8:00 p.m. but as crews began packing up it reignited and firefighters attacked the blaze a second time from outside the structure.
Around 10:45 p.m. the fire sparked up again and firefighters were called back to the building. When they arrived on the scene smoke and flames were seen coming from the structure.
A Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service drone was used to direct crews to hotspots.
Firefighters remained on the scene well into the night.
No injures were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
