Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two structure fires on Sunday evening, August 20, 2023.
Andrews Street
At 5:00 pm crews received reports of a fire in a two-story Andrews Street house.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the home. One person was rescued by crews after becoming trapped on the second floor. They were pulled from a window. Everyone else in the building were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was attacked from the inside of the structure and declared under control at 5:25 pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Elgin Avenue
At 6:16 pm firefighters responded to a blaze in a two-storey vacant house in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue.
Heavy smoke was seen coming from the building as emergency crews arrived on the scene. An offensive interior attack was launched but due to deteriorating conditions, firefighters transitioned to a defensive exterior battle. Once conditions improved they were able to go back inside the structure to extinguish the blaze. The fire was declared under control at 7:26 pm.
No one was found inside the building and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
