The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has recently responded to two structure fires in the city.
The first incident occurred at 6:21 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, when the WFPS was called to a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half storey house located in the 800 block of Home Street. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke emanating from the house. The fire was fought from the inside and was quickly brought under control. A thorough search of the structure confirmed that there were no occupants, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.
The second fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, July 18, 2024. At 2:11 a.m., WFPS crews were dispatched to a vacant two-and-a-half-storey house in the 400 block of Gertrude Avenue. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the house. They entered the structure and fought the fire from the interior, successfully declaring the fire under control by 2:57 a.m. A search of the house revealed no occupants and no injuries were reported. The cause of this fire also remains under investigation, and damage estimates are not available at this time.
