Winnipeg firefighters responded to two structure fires early Thursday morning, August 25, 2022.
Banning Street Fire
Around 5:40 am emergency crews responded to a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey multi-family residence in the 800 block of Banning Street.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the structure well-involved with fire and heavy smoke. An offensive attack was launched but due to deteriorating conditions crews transitioned to a defensive attack that saw the use of aerial ladder trucks and hand lines. The fire was declared under control at 9:30 am
The building is considered a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Lanark Street Fire
Firefighters were called upon again around 8:30 am for a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey single-family home in the 200 block of Lanark Street.
Crews found smoke coming from the building when they arrived and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:47 am.
No injuries were reported.
The fire appears to have been accidental, caused by unattended cooking.
