Shortly after 7:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to a blaze in the Sutherland Hotel on Main Street at Sutherland Avenue.

When firefighters arrived they found that the building sprinklers had already knocked down most of the flames. Crews attacked the remainder of the fire before declaring it under control at 7:27 p.m.

Everyone inside the building at the time of the fire were able to safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. One person was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Most of the damage to the building was contained to the suite where it began.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Minutes before midnight firefighters were called to a commercial building in the 1200 block of Main Street after flames and smoke were seen coming from a commercial building.

As it wasn’t safe for crews to enter the building an exterior attack was launched with the fire being declared under control at 1:30 a..m.

The building suffered water, smoke and fire damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
