Firefighters respond to two fires Sunday afternoon.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two afternoon fires on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

At 2:09 pm the call came in about a structure fire in the 600 block of Banning Street. When crews arrived they found a two-storey vacant house on fire and launched an offensive attack.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

Crews searched the building and did not find anyone inside. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Forty minutes after the first fire was called in firefighters were called to fire involving a retaining wall at Harrowby Avenue and St. Mary’s Road.

Heavy smoke and flames were encountered as emergency crews arrived on the scene.

An offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly under control. Firefighters remained on the scene for a couple hours putting out hotspots.

Engineers have been called in to inspect the structure.
