Firefighters respond to two fires overnight, one person sent to hospital

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two fires overnight.

 

 

William Avenue

Around 10:47 pm on April 21, 2023, firefighters were called to a vacant house fire in the 500 block of William Avenue after patrolling Winnipeg Police Service officers noticed smoke coming from the structure. As crews arrived they found smoke and flames coming from the house and launched an attack from the outside with hand lines and an aerial ladder truck. A previous fire in the building had left it unsafe for crews to enter.

The fire was declared under control at 12:45 am.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Quail Ridge Road

Shortly after midnight on April 22, 2023, firefighters were called to an apartment building in the first 100 block of Quail Ridge Road.

When firefighters arrived they found that the fire had already been put out before they arrived.

One person was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire was determined to have been caused by a small appliance and is considered accidental.
