Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple structure, outside and vehicle fires on Friday, April 2, 2021, keeping crews busy throughout the city.
Maryland Fire
Just after 8:00 pm emergency crews responded to a fire in a three-storey apartment building on Maryland Street.
As firefighters entered the building they found smoke. An offensive attack was launched with the fire brought under control in minutes. The fire was contained to the suite where it started.
Residents were evacuated temporarily but most were able to return to their suites once the building was ventilated.
Fire officials say the fire was accidental due to unattended cooking.
Pembina Fire
A second accidental fire was called in around 9: 16 pm in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway.
Crews determined that the fire was coming from the kitchen of one of the suites on the third floor in the eight-storey apartment building.
An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:50 pm.
Residents in the building were evacuated until the fire was out and most were able to return to their suites shortly afterward.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was believed to be unattended cooking.
Vehicle Fire
Fire crews also responded to a vehicle in the lane between Centennial Street and Beaverbrook Street just south of Grant Avenue around 10:30 pm.
When firefighters arrived they found a motorcycle on fire. Crews quickly had the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
