Firefighters Respond to Fires on Friday Evening and Saturday Morning

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews were kept busy with two separate fires on Home Street and Stella Avenue recently.

The first incident occurred on Friday, June 21, when WFPS responded to a fire at a two-and-a-half-storey house in the 600 block of Home Street. The call came in at 5:46 p.m., and upon arrival, crews observed smoke emanating from the structure. A swift interior attack was launched using hose lines, and the fire was declared under control by 6:08 p.m.

Fortunately, residents had self-evacuated before the arrival of the crews. One individual was assessed by paramedics on the scene but did not require hospitalization. No other injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to assist the displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The second fire broke out at a vacant one-storey house in the 300 block of Stella Avenue. The WFPS crews responded to the call at 3:57 a.m. Smoke was visible from the structure when crews arrived. An offensive fire attack was launched, and the fire was brought under control by 4:24 a.m. A thorough search of the house confirmed that there were no occupants, and no injuries were reported.

The causes of both fires are currently under investigation. At this time, damage estimates are not available.
