Firefighters respond to fire at the Marlborough Hotel early Saturday morning

A fire on the seventh floor of the Marlborough Hotel early Saturday morning, August 14, 2021, had the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responding with two alarms.

At 3:52 am the call came in for the building in the 300 block of Smith Street. Fire officials called in a second alarm, which is a normal procedure when dealing with a high-rise structure with potential for high life hazards.

Crews determined that smoke was coming from one suite. The internal sprinkler system extinguished the blaze and firefighters ensured all hot spots were put out. The fire was declared under control at 4:31 am.

Everyone inside the hotel were evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Although the fire damage was contained to one suite water and smoke damage did impact several other suites.

21 guests in the building were moved to another hotel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
