Firefighters respond to a gas leak and fire on Regent Avenue West

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded just before 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, to reports of a fire in a vacant restaurant in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found that the gas line to the building was leaking and had ignited. Flames were coming from the gas meter and shooting up the side of the building.

Firefighters worked to put out the blaze while other fire crews taped off a large safety zone around the building. Manitoba Hydro emergency crews were called in to shut off the gas to the structure.

Although no evacuations were needed one nearby business had its drive-thru closed while firefighters were on the scene. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
