Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire just after 8:45 pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023, on the abandoned train bridge over the Assiniboine River just east of Route 90.

Thick black smoke could be seen several kilometres away.

When crews arrived they found debris on fire on the bridge and were able to quickly knock down the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
