Winnipeg firefighters were called to the Assiniboine River early Friday morning, October 21, 2022, after an individual was spotted being swept down the river towards the Forks around 2:06 am.
Emergency crews used a drone to help locate the victim while other rescue workers positioned themselves along the riverbank to also search.
Just before 2:30 am the individual was spotted about nine metres offshore near the Forks footbridge and the junction with the Red River. Firefighters went into the water and were able to pull the victim to the safety of a Zodiac boat. The patient was taken to a waiting ambulance where they were assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition.
Officials say that they do not know what caused the individual to be in the water or how long they were in the river.
