Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to two early morning fires on Monday morning, December 28, 2020, as temperatures hovered in the -20s.
Regent Avenue West
Just after 2:00 am emergency crews were called to a fire in a strip mall at the corner of Regent Avenue West and Lagimodiere Boulevard.
As firefighters arrived thick smoke could be seen billowing from a restaurant on the property, Firefighters launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 3:07 am.
No injuries were reported and no one was found inside the building after a search.
A law office next door to the restaurant also suffered some smoke damage due to the fire.
Dumoulin Street
At 3:17 am firefighters were called out to battle a second fire. This time the blaze was in a single-storey home in the 400 block of Dumoulin Street in St. Boniface.
Smoke was coming from the home as firefighters arrived on the scene and an offensive attack was launched.
Two people from inside the home were able to get out of the structure through a window. They were assessed on the scene by paramedics but did not require to be taken to hospital.
The fire was declared under control at 4:21 am.
The cause of both fires are under investigation.
