Crews were called to a fire at 2:24 am in the lane behind a 200 block Watt Street home.
A garage was fully involved and had extended to a nearby utility pole. Firefighters battled the blaze for about 15 minutes declaring it under control at 2:41 am.
No injuries were reported
The cause of the fire is under investigation
Vale Place
Minutes before 3:00 am firefighters responded to a fire at a single-family home on Vale Place.
As crews arrived they found an outside fire that had extended to the outside of the home.
Crews quickly brought the fire under control.
The cause of the fire appears to have been caused by a cigarette being butted out in a planter. Fire officials have deemed the fire an accident.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says that plant pots should never be used as an ashtray. The makeup of potting soil is not just dirt but also contains other materials that are combustible like peat moss or shredded wood.
