Winnipeg firefighters battled multiple fires on Friday morning, April 7, 2023.
Crews responded to a blaze in an apartment building in the first 100 block of Des Hivernants Boulevard North just after 8:00 am.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they saw smoke coming from the structure. An interior attack was launched and the fire was declared under control by 8:24 am. A cat and two dogs were rescued from the building. One of the dogs suffered injuries and firefighters made sure it was treated for its injuries.
No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
At 8:33 am a call came in reporting a fire in a vacant house in the 400 block of Ross Avenue. This same building was the scene of a major fire on March 26, 2023.

When crews arrived they found smoke coming from the building and launched a defensive attack as it was unsafe to enter the structure. A ladder truck was used to pour water on the fire from above.
The building was ordered demolished due to structural instability and in order to safely extinguish the fire and maintain scene safety.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The third fire call came in at 10:28 am for a fire in a two-storey home in the first 100 block of Hart Avenue.
Crews attacked the blaze declaring it under control in about 40 minutes.
No injuries were reported
Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and started in the chimney.
