Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to five structure fires between 11:23 pm Monday night and 3:15 pm Tuesday afternoon.
Home Street
Crews responded to a fire in a garage behind a Home street residence just before 11:30 pm on Monday, May 24, 2021. Smoke was coming from the garage as crews arrives and the fire had extended to a nearby porch. An offensive attack was launched and the blaze was brought under control by 11:54 pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Davidson Street
Minutes later at 11:29 pm firefighters in St. James were called to a house fire on Davidson Street south of Ness. Smoke was coming from the home when crews arrived and an offensive attack was launched. It was determined the cause of the fire was a malfunctioning dryer.
Selkirk Avenue
At 7:09 am on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 firefighters found themselves responding to a fire in a two-storey home on Selkirk Avenue. Smoke was coming from the home as crews arrived and people were trapped on the second floor. A ladder was used to reach the occupants and bring them to safety.
Three people were assessed on the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital in unstable condition.
The fire was declared under control by 7:43 am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Young Street
Young Street was the next scene emergency responders went to around 1:14 pm. Smoke and flames were seen coming from a two-and-a-half-storey residence. An offensive attack quickly brought the fire under control by 1:29 pm. No one was in the home at the time of the blaze.

Dufferin Avenue
At 3:13 a call came in for a fire in a vacant Dufferin Avenue bungalow. Smoke was coming from the home and an offensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control at 3:47 pm.
No occupants were found in the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
