Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a blaze at 7:14 am Saturday morning, June 25, 2022, in the 800 block of Laxdal Road.
When crews arrived on the scene they found a well-involved fire in a bungalow and launched an offensive attack. Due to safety concerns firefighters transitioned to a defensive attack.
Handlines were used to attack the flames and crews also deployed the Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression tool. The tool is an aerosol device that reduces temperatures in a fire by flooding the space with a mist that surpasses the flames in seconds. The fire was declared under control at 9:35 am but crews remained on the scene throughout the day putting out hotspots.
One person in the home at the time of the blaze was able to get out before firefighters arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters rescued two pets, one was returned to the owner the other was given medical aid but died from its injuries.
The City of Winnipeg Emergency Social Services was called to help the occupant find a temporary place to stay.
The house suffered significant damage due to flames, smoke and water.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
