Winnipeg firefighters were called to a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home as crews arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was launched inside the structure and the fire was declared under control about 40 minutes after it began.
Extreme cold made for difficult conditions for emergency crews as the area around the home became ice-covered and slippery. Firefighters were rotated in and out of operations in order to give them breaks from the extreme cold.
No one was found inside the house and no injuries were reported.
Two cats were rescued and handed over to the Winnipeg Animal Services Agency to care for.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
