Firefighters were called to a fire in a two-storey duplex on Talbot Avenue around 9:30 pm on Wednesday night, December 29, 2021.
Crews found flames coming from the building when they arrived and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 10:00 pm.
Occupants in of the duplex were able to self-evacuate before emergency crews arrived.
One firefighter suffered injures and was treated by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospitalization. No other injuries were reported. Two cats were located but they had died due to the fire.
Residents of the duplex were assisted by the City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services Unit in finding temporary alternate accommodations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
