Manitoba First Nations Police Service have arrested a 30-year-old Sandy Bay First Nations man after he took police on a 30 minute chase, rammed a police cruiser then tried to flee on foot.
Around 12:55 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020 a MFNPS K-9 unit was on patrol in Sandy Bay First Nation when they noticed a car speeding through the community. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit was begun.
Over the next 30 minutes additional units joined the pursuit. At one point the fleeing vehicle intentionally rammed a marked police unit in an attempt to escape. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and attempted to get away on foot.
Police Service Dog Ceto pursued the suspect and he was quickly taken into custody.
Inside the suspects vehicle officers found ammunition and a magazine for a rifle,a prohibited firearm and a non-restricted firearm.
The suspect was wanted on a warrant and was under a number of court orders that restricted him from possessing any firearms.
Lindsey Daniel Houle from Sandy Bay First Nation has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault on Police Officer with a Weapon, Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Unauthorized Possession of a firearm, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm Contrary to an Order, Possession of a Firearm When Knowing Unauthorized, Fail to Comply with a Release Order, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Resist Arrest, Flight from Police
Houle was detained in custody.
