53 firearms ​​stolen in two Manitoba​ break-ins

Manitoba RCMP are investigating two separate break-ins and thefts of more than 50 firearms in the last month.

Police say that around 3:00 am on Monday, January 14, 2019, a home in the RM of Springfield was broken into. The thieves made off with 12 handguns that had been secured in a gun safe in the home’s garage.

Later in the day a Souris resident contacted RCMP to report the theft of more than 41 long guns. The victim of the thefts did not have a specific date of the break-in but reported it could have happened as early as mid-December 2018.

Investigators do not believe the incidents are related.
