Fire guts a vacant McDermot Avenue house Saturday

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were called to a structure fire in the 500 block of McDermot Avenue minutes after midnight on Saturday March 6, 2021.

When firefighters arrived smoke and flames were shooting out of the front of the building and an offensive attack was launched. As conditions deteriorated inside the structure firefighters were forced outside and transitioned to a defensive attack.

The fire spread to an adjacent home which had already been evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to attack the fire from above as crews on the ground used hand lines to assist and to protect the neighbouring home.

A fire investigator was on scene and is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Crews worked well into the early morning to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.
