Fire crews responded to two apartment fires Wednesday evening

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two apartment fires Wednesday evening, June 24, 2020.

Cumberland Avenue

At 7:00 pm sirens wailed as emergency crews responded to a two alarm fire at an apartment building in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue.

Smoke could be seen coming from the structure as firefighters arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control by 7:32 pm.

As a precaution the entire building was evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Goulet Street

A second fire call came in around 7:22 pm at an apartment building in the 200 block of Goulet Street.

When crews arrived they encountered smoke coming from one of the suites and quickly brought it under control.

One person was taken to hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire was accidental due to unattended cooking.
