Fire crews battled two structure fires on Monday evening

El Tassi Drive

Firefighters were busy Monday evening, August 16, 2021, battling two fires in the city.

At 5:35 pm a fire in a three-storey townhouse complex on El Tassi Drive had crews responding.

Light smoke was coming from the structure when they arrived on the scene and firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire.

Everyone inside the building were able to safely get out before emergency crews arrived.

A dog and two cats were removed from the building and handed over to animal services.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, cause by unattended cooking. The fire was contained to the suite it started in.

Prichard Avenue

A fire in a two-storey duplex on Prichard Avenue is under investigation after crews responded around 8:15 pm and found smoke and flames coming from the building.

An offensive attack was launched with the fire declared under control at 9:00 pm.

No one was found inside the structure but a dog was located inside and although firefighters tried to revive the animal they were unsuccessful.

No other injuries were reported.
