Fire crews battled two blazes in vacant houses previously damaged by fire

MOUNTAIN AVENUE

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service spent several hours battling a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue early Tuesday Morning.

Around 1:43 Winnipeg Police reported the fire. As firefighters arrived on the scene they found a well-involved blaze with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

A defensive attack was launched as it was not safe for crews to enter the building. The structure was the site of a previous fire in August.

WFPS deployed their drone to provide aerial assistance to the incident commander by locating hot spots.

Two neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

Just after 5:00 am the fire was declared under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

BURROWS AVENUE

Around 7:06 Monday evening firefighters battled another blaze in a vacant two-storey house in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue.

As crews arrived they saw smoke coming from the house and launched an offensive attack. The fire was brought under control within the hour.

A search of the building confirmed that no one was inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation as the building had been previously damaged by fire in January 2019 and June of this year.
