A massive fire in a Brandon building under construction sent plums of thick black smoke into the sky on Thursday morning, February 17, 2022.

Firefighters were called to the scene at Victoria Avenue and E. Fotheringham Drive around 8:15 am and immediately launched a defensive attack using aerial ladders and hand lines.

Construction crews working on the building were able to evacuate the area before emergency crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The fire was declared under control about an hour after it started but firefighters remain on the scene putting out hotspots as they flare up. The four-storey building is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
