A fire in the 200 block of Hartford Avenue claimed the life of the family dog early Saturday evening, March 16, 2019.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic crews arrived just after 6:00 pm to find heavy smoke billowing from the home.
It took crews about a half hour to knock the blaze down.
The people in the home had managed to escape the fire before crews arrived but the family dog was found suffering from smoke inhalation. Firefighters tried to resuscitate the pet but were unable to.
The home suffered extensive smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
