Brandon Police locked down the area around an apartment complex in the 400 block of Park Street on Sunday, January 28, 2018, just before noon after a woman report that she had been taken hostage by two males with a shotgun.
Police say that two of the woman’s male relatives were able to get her out of the apartment but were threatened by the suspects with the weapon.
Brandon’s Emergency Response Team was able to negotiate with the suspects and convinced one of the men to exit the building around 10:00 pm. He was immediately taken into custody.
The other suspect finally gave up and exited the building around 12:00 am Monday, January 29, 2018. He was also immediately taken into custody.
The female hostage told police that she was burned with a cigarette while being held captive.
Officers searched the apartment and seized a 12-gauge Pump action pistol grip shotgun, ammunition and a military-style flak jacket.
A 22-year-old male has been charged with
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Threatening to Cause Death or Injury X 2
- Assault with a Weapon and Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Forcible Confinement
- Careless Use of Firearm/Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
A 45-year-old Brandon man has been charged with
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Assault with a Weapon
- Careless Use of a Firearm/Ammunition
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm/Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Police say that the 45-year-old male was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment.
Both men were detained in custody at the Brandon Correctional Centre
Brandon Police continue to investigate.
