Female driver dies in head-on collision on Highway 68

RCMP are investigating a fatal collision on Highway 68 about 10 kilometres east of Ste. Rose du Lac around 9;15 pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

Investigators say that an eastbound minivan struck a deer then swerved into the westbound lane hitting a westbound vehicle head-on. The 30-year-old female driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. The 44-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. A one-year-old female who was also in the westbound vehicle was not injured.

Both the 22-year-old driver and 25-year-old passenger in the eastbound vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police say that alcohol and speed do not appear to have been factors in the collision.

RCMP continue to investigate.
