Manitoba is waiving provincial park access and vehicle permit fees for the month of February to encourage people to take advantage of fun winter activities across the province.
Park interpreters offer a number of guided experiences at Birds Hill, Spruce Woods and Whiteshell provincial parks such as wolf howl hikes, snowshoe treks, quinzhee building and ice fishing.
Many provincial parks have groomed cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fat biking, snowshoeing and hiking trails. Paint Lake, Spruce Woods and Turtle Mountain parks also have outdoor skating areas, hockey rinks and toboggan hills. Snopasses will still be needed for snowmobilers using groomed trails in parks.
People wanting to take advantage of February’s free access are encouraged to check trail conditions and weather forecasts before visiting the parks. An online interactive trails map is updated regularly with grooming and condition reports and is online at www.manitobaparks.com, which is also where more event details and registration information can be found.
