Winnipeg Police have arrested a 28-year-old male after a child was abducted then killed.

Police say that at 9:28 am on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, they responded to the Robertson neighbourhood after a 3-year-old girl was taken at knifepoint by her father from her mother.

Officers located the father within 15 minutes near King Edward Street and Jefferson Avenue and placed him into custody. The child was found inside the vehicle suffering from stab injuries. Police immediately began first aid.

The girl was taken to hospital in critical condition but she did not survive her injuries.

The father was identified as Frank Nausigimana and has been charged for his alleged involvement with First Degree Murder.

Police continue to investigate.
