Father and son attacked on Winnipeg Transit

A man and a woman are in custody after they allegedly assaulted a father and his 10-year-old son on a Winnipeg Transit bus.

Police say that the father and son were on the bus Thursday evening, January 19, 2023, when the accused began hurling obscenities towards them. The pair then escalated the situation and punched the father and son in the head several times before fleeing the bus. According to police the adult male assailant returned and slapped the father across the face before finally leaving the bus.

Police met with the victims and witnesses after the bus stopped in the 500 block of Main Street. The father and son were taken to hospital in stable condition and treated.

The two accused were standing nearby and were arrested.

31-year-old Clifford Mentuck was charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault, Failing to Comply with Undertaking and two outstanding warrants for Break & Enter.

37-year-old Nida Diane Kipling was charged with Assault.
