One dead in fatal vehicle collision on Highway 9

A 49-year-old male is dead after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision with a pickup truck on Highway 9.

RCMP responded to the call around 6:30 pm on Friday, December 22, 2017. It happened just north of Highway 17 about 30 kilometres northwest of Selkirk.

Police say that the southbound car driven by the deceased crossed over the centre line and struck the northbound pickup. The driver of the car was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver and passenger of the pickup were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 9 was closed for nearly 4 hours as officers investigated the collision.

Police say that it is unclear if alcohol or speed played a factor in the accident.
