Fatal Transcona house fire Sunday night under investigation

UPDATED

One person is dead in connection to a single-family house fire on Grassie Boulevard Sunday night, February 2, 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) were called to the home around 7:45 pm.

When crews arrived on scene they found the fire well-involved with heavy flames and smoke coming from the residence.

Firefighters searched the home and located one person who was declared dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified by family members as 40-year-old Keith Zilinsky.

Due to deteriorating conditions crews backed out of the structure and launched a defensive attack.

The fire was brought under control by 8:36 pm.

Fire officials say the home sustained significant damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
