Emergency crews respond to fatal train collision

Emergency crews were called to a collision between a CP freight train and a pickup truck on Roblin Boulevard in Headingley late Monday afternoon, August 26, 2019.

Police say that around 4:20 pm the northbound train was hit by the vehicle eastbound on Roblin Boulevard and pushed it along the tracks onto the bridge over the Assiniboine River. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic service deployed its water rescue unit as a safety precaution as the WFPS technical response unit worked on the bridge above.

The 75-year-old-male driver and the 65-year-old female passenger, both from the RM of Headingley were pronounced dead at the scene.

Roblin Boulevard was closed until about 10:30 pm as crews worked on and around the bridge.
