A single-vehicle rollover on Highway 12 near Steinbach has resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man and the arrest of a 31-year-old suspect.
On March 26, 2025, at approximately 6:20 a.m., a Steinbach RCMP officer came upon the scene of a rollover in the southbound ditch of Highway 12. Upon stopping to investigate, the officer was informed by a passing motorist that they had witnessed an individual attempting to remove someone from the overturned vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot.
The officer discovered a 27-year-old male passenger suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was immediately transported to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance, but soon succumbed to his injuries.
Following the initial investigation, RCMP Police Dog Services and a drone were deployed to search the surrounding area. A short distance from the crash site, officers located and arrested a 31-year-old male from the RM of Tache, who is suspected to be the driver of the vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident.
The Steinbach RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover.
