Fatal Horace Avenue Fire
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic crews report one person has died in a Norwood area house fire Monday morning, April 22, 2019.
The fire broke out in the two-storey Horace Avenue home just before 11:30 am. One person managed to get out of the home but firefighters were told another person was trapped inside. Unfortunately, the person trapped inside died before crews were able to reach them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but initial indications are that the fire is not suspicious in nature.
Firefighters responded to another fire just before noon in the 600 block of Hoskin Avenue. When they arrived they encounter heavy smoke.
The home suffered significant water, smoke and fire damage and is under investigation.
People inside the home were able to bet out before firefighter arrived on scene.
Earlier in the morning crews were called to a one and a half storey home on Stella Avenue around 2:47 am. Heavy smoke could be seen by crews billowing from the structure as they arrived. A search of the building did not locate anyone inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Winnipeg Fire crews came across a fire in the 800 block of Burrows Avenue as they were responding to another incident around 4:30 am and reported it. Additional crews were dispatched to fight the fire in the vacant single storey structure.
