FATAL CRASH | POLICE CHARGE DRIVER IN DOUBLE ROLLOVER CRASH

As News4 told you on Tuesday,

Around 4:00pm, police attempted to stop on a vehicle travelling on Boyd Avenue near Arlington Street. When officers turned on their emergency lights the vehicle fled and collided with a pick-up truck at Boyd and Sinclair causing both vehicles to roll into their sides.

Due to the collision a female passenger, aged 36 who was in the vehicle police had attempted to stop suffered fatal injuries. Two youths, a male and female, also passengers in the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An adult male and the 20 year old male driver also did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

The driver of truck, the only occupant, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
   
The driver was charged with the following offences:
   
   – Drive Impaired cause Death x 1, and bodily harm X 4
   – Drive Dangerous resulting in Death x 1, and bodily harm x 4
   – Flight from Police resulting in Death x 1, and bodily harm x 4
   – Breach of Undertaking
   – Warrant of Arrest x 2
   – Drive Disqualified (criminal code)
   
He was detained in custody.

The investigation has been taken over by the Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba (IIU). The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police when there is an injury or death.
