Family pet shot three times as it tried to flee robber who broke into home

A family is suffering the loss of a family pet after an 18-year-old male shot it three times.

RCMP say that on September 26, 2017, a male gained access to a rural home near Teulon through a window. As the robber was stealing items he came across Boomer, a Dogue de Bordeaux (AKA French Mastiff)

As this gentle giant was attempting to flee the suspect shot him three times then took off. As the suspect was exiting the residence the homeowner arrived and called RCMP.

Police quickly found the suspect and with the help of Police dog Eddie they also located the weapon used to shoot Boomer.

Unfortunately, Boomer was pronounced dead by a local vet.

18-year-old Isaiah Flett from Peguis has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement.

  • Reckless Discharge of Firearm
  • Injure or Endanger Animals
  • Breaking and Entering with Intent
  • Break and Enter to Steal Firearm

Flett is remanded in custody.
