Hydro does not do random furnace checks
On Wednesday March 22, 2017 a man in the Island Lakes area of the city was posing as a Manitoba Hydro employee and attempting to get inside peoples homes.
According to police the man was wearing a Manitoba Hydro uniform and went to a home off Island Shore Boulevard. He told the resident that he was there to inspect the furnace to see if it was up to code. The homeowner asked the man for his Manitoba Hydro identification but the man made the excuse that he left it in his vehicle. The man then returned to his vehicle and sped off.
The man is caucasian about 6’1″ in height, 25 to 30 years old with dark hair and facial stubble. He was driving an older model maroon coloured car.
Manitoba Hydro has been advising customers that all their employees carry official Manitoba Hydro identification and are uniformed. Hydro says that they do not conduct random furnace inspections.
If you are unsure or feel uncomfortable when dealing with someone claiming to be working for Hydro you are encouraged to request their ID, call hydro to confirm the work they are planning to do or request an appointment be scheduled for the work.
