Suspect facing real charges after pointing fake gun

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old male after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a Portage Avenue security guard.

Police say that it happened around 9:15 am on Thursday May 30, 2019.

Officers found the suspect near Isabel and Cumberland Avenue a short time later and took him into custody.

When he was arrested the weapon was not in his possession but he showed police where he had discarded it.

The gun turned out to be an imitation that had been altered to look more realistic.

Even though the weapon was fake the suspect, Tyler Tony Lee Bittern, is facing real charges for his alleged involvement.

Bittern was charged with Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition and Pointing a Firearm.

He was detained in custody.
