Woman arrested after making a fake report to police

Winnipeg Police have arrested an 18-year-old female after she called police with a fabricated story about a man with a gun.

Just after 6:00 am on February 7, 2019 police received a phone call from the suspect saying a man with a gun had banged on her door. She told police that the man had asked her to hide the weapon and drugs in her suite in the 300 block of Blake Street.

The woman was adamant that the male was in a neighbouring suite and she gave them a very detailed description of the man.

Police responded in force with multiple Tactical Support Teams, general patrol officers, a k-9 unit as well as a Tactical Medical Services team.

After about 4 and a half hours officers on scene were able to confirm the male was not there.

A review of security footage within the building confirmed that at no time was there a male with a weapon and no person had come to the callers door at all.

Police say the investigation determined the entire incident was fabricated by the caller.

She was charged with Public Mischief and released on a promise to appear in court.
