Scary situation as family chased and threatend with firearm

It’s like a scene from a Hollywood movie a dad and his two children were pursued by two suspects around the community of Fairford, Manitoba. Fairford is about 241 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

According to RCMP the 21-year-old father was in his vehicle with his two children as passengers just after 5:00 am on Sunday, September 22, 2019, when the suspects began to chase him. The father, in an effort to get away, drove around the community. Eventually the dad was forced to stop.

One of the suspects pulled out a long-barrelled firearm and pointed it directly at the father while making threats. The suspects returned to their vehicle and fled once the threats were made.

The father then grabbed his kids from the vehicle and went to a nearby home for help.

Polce received a report around 7:00 am that the suspects were returning to Fairford and appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers found the vehicle in a residential driveway and arrested two men as they exited the home. The firearm was not located after the suspects vehicle was searched.

A search warrant was approved for the home which netted officers four rifles, one shotgun, one handgun and ammunition.

54-year-old Kurt Woodford and 39-year-old Cory Sumner are facing multiple firarm and assault charges for their alleged involvement.

Both men were remanded in custody.
