Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Southern Manitoba as wind chills are expected to reach -40 to -45 overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
A high-pressure system is moving into the southern prairies causing clear skies and ushering in the cold arctic air.
Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday afternoon.
With extreme cold frostbite on exposed skin can occur within minutes. Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
ECCC reminds everyone to also be aware of leaving their pet outside. “If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”
