Extreme Cold Warning issued for most of Manitoba

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for most of Manitoba including the City of Winnipeg.

Very cold wind chills are expected tonight into Friday afternoon.

Wind chills near -40c are expected to redevelop in southern Manitoba as cold arctic air settles over the province.

In the north wind chills values of between -45c to -50c are expected to last for the rest of the week, through the weekend and into next week.

With wind chills in the extreme range, frostbite is a real concern as exposed skin can freeze within minutes. Hypothermia is also a concern for those working outside or living without adequate shelter.

Environment Canada issues extreme cold warnings when very cold temperatures or wind chills increase the risk to health.
