On August 24, 2016, just after 2:00 pm emergency services personnel responded to the intersection of York Avenue and Kennedy Street in response to a small explosion which had just occurred.
A suspect male had placed a backpack on the ground and lit it on fire before leaving on a small-sized bicycle. In response to the fire a security officer from the Law Courts attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. At this time the backpack exploded.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire and explosion.The security officer, a male in his fifties, was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The suspect is described as:
– Male, aboriginal in appearance
– Mid-twenties, with some facial hair
– Wearing sunglasses and a hat
