A quick response by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) prevented significant damage to a home on Victor Street Monday night. Crews were called to the 500 block of Victor Street at 10:05 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from a one-and-a-half storey, single-family house.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and immediately entered the residence to battle the blaze from within. The fire was declared under control at 10:22 p.m., just 17 minutes after the initial call.
Fortunately, all occupants of the house had safely self-evacuated before the WFPS arrived. No injuries were reported.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to provide temporary support to the residents displaced by the fire.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by a malfunctioning bathroom exhaust fan.
